Frequently Asked Questions
Expand your universe. Kickstart Your Year.
What is coaching?
Coaching is a process of self-discovery and transformation that happens via learning and action. At the center of this process is the relationship between the coach and the client — a partnership in which the coach creates opportunities through holding space and powerful questioning for the client to self-discover, internalize learning, experiment and strategize.
The International Coach Federation defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
Coaching is not consulting, psychotherapy, training, mentorship or a performance review. The coach’s role is to help the client uncover answers and solutions, not to provide them.
Who will my coach be?
Can I get to know Emily before signing up?
Sure! If you’re interested in meeting with Emily prior to signing up to get a taste of what coaching will be like, use the link below to schedule a free discovery session video call.
Can I really change through coaching?
Absolutely — if you’re willing to a) approach the process fully committed to yourself and your growth and b) take the time necessary to do the self-work. Change is difficult and often painful, which is why it’s helpful to have the wholehearted support of a coach as you embark on a journey of transformation.
Moreover, sustainable change happens with practice, which is why we’ve created a program that requires you to conceptualize, experiment, reflect and integrate (the adult learning process) over and over and over again. The self-guided piece of the intensive is critical to moving towards the outcome you envision.
Finally, the change you’re looking for will only happen (and last!) if you feel called to participate in Kickstart Your Year. If it feels like a “should” or an obligation, the process won't be effective.
What are some examples of topics that clients bring to coaching?
Sometimes clients know exactly what they want to work on when they come to coaching. Examples of personal/professional leadership and career coaching topics include goals related to the following:
Developing confidence and authentic self-expression at work and beyond
Building a values-based career path and life
Leading (a life, a team, an organization, a family, etc.) from a place of purpose
Cultivating sustainable habits of self-nourishment, self-compassion and wellbeing
Managing relationships with integrity
Other times, we work with clients to help them develop a focus. Sometimes clients come to coaching experiencing the following around work, personal life or both:
I'm in a transition and feel overwhelmed
I'm on autopilot and want to live with greater intention
I feel stuck
I seek an opportunity for guided self-discovery
I want to develop greater self-awareness
I feel like something is missing or "off"
Is Kickstart Your Year confidential?
Yes. Kickstart Your Year is a confidential process. Here is the confidentiality clause in the coaching agreement:
The Coach respects the Client’s right to privacy. The Coach agrees to maintain verbal and written confidentiality of all Client information unless permission is received from the Client, except as required by law. The Coach will only break confidentiality if there is concern that the Client threatens harm to himself/herself/themselves or others. The Client agrees to have only his/her/their name, contact information and start and end dates of coaching shared with International Coach Federation (ICF) staff members and/or other parties involved in the certification process for the sole purpose of verifying the coaching relationship; no personal notes will be shared. According to the ethics of our profession, topics may be anonymously and hypothetically shared with other coaching professionals for training, supervision, mentoring and evaluation to further coach professional development and/or consultation purposes.
This looks like a great program, but I’m really unclear on what my goals are. Can I still participate?
Yes, please do! This program is designed to kickstart any efforts you are making to reach goals, learn about yourself, clarify visions and find fulfillment. Everyone’s outcomes will be different. If you’re curious about discussing in more detail about how Kickstart Your Year can support you, please reach out via email and we can find a time to talk!
What is the weekly time commitment?
This is your program — you get to choose what you want to put into it beyond the 30-50-minute coaching sessions. However, to maximize your results, we strongly suggest spending about 1.5-2 hours per week on the self-guided portion of the intensive.
The first week has several hours of self-guided work, which is why we recommend giving yourself two weeks to do it before your first coaching session.
The fourth, eighth and twelfth weeks offer additional exercises as well, which will add an average of about 45 minutes.
What is my financial investment?
Kickstart Your Year requires a one-time payment of $1,200 paid up front.*
When broken down weekly over the course of the program, this ends up costing $100/week, which is a discount of almost 40% compared to EHM Coaching’s standard rate per coaching session.
*Our preference is to keep payment processing simple with a single payment. If this pay-in-full investment makes participation out of the question for you and you are otherwise serious about making the commitment, please reach out about alternative payment plan options; we may be able to accommodate!
When does Kickstart Your Year begin?
Kickstart Your Year begins in January 2019, but you can sign up as early as December 2018.
Is there a group component to this program?
Not this time around! Maybe in the future.
Something came up. Can I get a refund?
You can get a refund (cost of program minus credit card and any refund processing fees) up until 48 hours before your initial coaching session (fees may apply if you’ve already accessed and begun the self-guided coaching materials). Otherwise, no refunds.
